Mattel Creations x Contemporary Artists Collab

I’m beyond thrilled with Mattel Creations’ collaborations with contemporary artists! First, they teamed up with Mark Ryden—my absolute favorite—and now with Keiichi Tanaami.

“Pink Pop” is the name of Mark Ryden’s gallery exhibit back in 2022 and the first of Mattel Creations exclusive dolls.

This release actually features more dolls, like the Barbie Bee and the Surrealist Ball, but I’m especially drawn to the Pink Pop Barbie and its merchandise. It’s so Mark Ryden, and it really resonates with me on a deeper and cuter level. Sad that everything got sold out so quickly.

Wearing candy-striped tights and a dress that matches her bright pink hair, while accompanied by a smiling yak, Pink Pop Barbie is a vision in her signature color.

Forever pretty in pink, Barbie spirals into madly sweet dreams. Designed with Mark Ryden, this Pink Pop Barbie Doll comes with a strange, wide-eyed yak and smiling pot of flowers. She arrives in premium packaging designed with artwork by Mark Ryden.

The doll is also 12 inches in height and it has a silkstone body type. I super love the flowerpot and the marbled meat bag! She’s definitely on my wish list!

Now, we move on to another collab which was released last year. Keiichi Tanaami is a Japanese Pop Art legend known for his colorful, surrealist style. In celebration of his six-decade career retrospective in Tokyo, Mattel Creations partnered with him (before he sadly passed away) to reimagine three of their iconic brands: Barbie, UNO, and Magic 8-Ball. So surreal!

There is actually an exhibit where they featured a life sized Keiichi Barbie too!

This Barbie doll is wearing a multi-tiered pleated pleather dress adorned with Tanaami artwork and a 3D face on her bodice. Her yellow headdress features inquisitive eyes with vinyl eyelashes, along with a central eye at the crown—a celebration of art and fashion that sees all and reveals nothing.

Lovin’ the yellow head piece, crab detail, and the drawstring mesh bag that contains a Tanaami dragon goldfish!

And just recently, I got a message from my brother saying a huge box has arrived. Can you guess what it is? 😉
