We went to the exhibition opening, Heir to the Loom by Marina Cruz, at Pinto Art Museum last October 9 to view her works and support the artist.
We were enthralled by the beauty and the intricate details. Ang husay! Her works explore the artist’s meticulous depiction of heirloom inabel fabrics.
Marina Cruz’s curiosity on these weaves allowed her to create exquisite artworks that show the creases, folds and marks of use over time with evidence of frayed hems, loose threads, and color fading.
The other side of the space exhibits the actual textiles. These textiles, handmade and treasured, were passed on to their generation and are now immortalized through her paintings.
Through this exhibition, Marina Cruz provides a fresh tangent on how our material culture and tangible heritage may be appreciated and honored, particularly the hardy Iloko fabric and its durable beauty.
Fave photo! This event happened a day before my birthday. While the exhibition was not that easily accessible to the public (it was also raining that day), I felt that I needed this birthday treat. Viewing these artworks was a rare experience, indeed.
