Matrix 8-Inch Cut for Cancer Event

Did you know? About 3,500 children in the Philippines everyday struggle with cancer. To help uplift their lives, American salon brand Matrix gathered hairdressers and Filipino women to take the Matrix 8-Inch Cut for Cancer Challenge at The Block, 2/F, SM City North Edsa, Quezon City and marked the first Chairs of Change project in the Philippines.

Matrix pooled in MORE THAN 30 hairstylists from David’s Salon to cut eight inches from the hairs of the Filipina women who accepted the challenge. Tresses will be used to make a wig for cancer patients of Kythe Ateneo Foundation.
To our surprise, more than 400 Filipina women signed up and came to support the program and donated 8-inches of their hair.
I was originally invited to style Maxene Magalona and Ina Ongsiako for this event but guess what, I also accepted the challenge and cut more than 8 inches of my hair!

Shocking ba? Well, it was not my first time to go this short but I was still hesitant since my first try was such a fail to the point that my boyfriend advised me not to go short ever again – but it’s for a cause! And I wanna go short and tell myself that I can do it.
If it feels depressing to see the hairdresser cutting too much from my hair, what more for the little children who have cancer. Losing their hair everyday because of chemo without fully understanding what is happening is more heartbreaking.

Aside from the haircut, Matrix also provided an area for accessory-making. The charms of Joy made by guests will also be delivered to children with cancer.
Gorgeous Filipina women went home happy with their fresh new looks!
My cousin and sister in law also joined and showed their support to cancer awareness. I was surprised to see my brother and niece there too!
After the challenge, I went to David’s Salon for my styling project. Maxene is really beautiful inside and out. Very down to earth! I love this girl! I showed her the outfit she’s going to wear and gave her options. Guess what, she opted for the simpler style!
Maxene is wearing a red H&M dress here. Did you know that Maxene was the first to take the Cut for Cancer challenge two months ago?
On the other hand, Ina Ongsiako loves the H&M dress I made her wear that afternoon. 🙂

During the program, Maxene dared Ina to take the Cut for Cancer challenge too! Ina was so suprised and she was this — close to backing out but she did it!
Here’s Maxene expressing her happiness as Ina took her dare.
She was such a good sport! Good job!

She looks so young and fresh with her new hairstyle!
JP Thomassin, professional products division general manager of L’Oreal Philippines, said they want to give back to the community and make a difference here in the Philippines.
